EPIC CHIKURA
April 23rd / 24th 2011. 1 day of weather from hell followed by one day from heaven.
After a few months worth of horror and sitting around at Home after the Great Northern Earth Quake finally a weekend arrives with the chance of some great swell, we called around to rally the troops and decided to meet at Chikura on the Saturday morning at 5.00am to try and get the surf with out any wind, how wrong we were, it was howling , Typhoon strength but Chikura was side off-shore amazing , double overhead on the sets, and 100% ridable. We spent the rest of the day surfing 3 long hard sessions , in torrential rain and hurricane force winds , The riding was out of this world, with one of the team scoring a Stand up barrel as the rest were paddling back out !! Sleeping in the car that night was an experience in itself the rain never let up neither did the wind. Sunday the 24th came around & all we can say is the pictures tell the story, light off-shore winds and a perfect 4-6ft swell with the odd wave 8ft high, some amazing riding going down and the weather was simply stunning. A day we will never forget , Thank You Mother Nature for giving us a good one!!
