Sunday 31st March 2013 - Well folks late Sunday night here on the Easter weekend , and wat can we say , it was cold and overcast most of the weekend but boy did we have some good waves! Saturday morning was super fun punchy surf down in Kamogawa with nice long rides. Saturday night thumping Hebera beach break . Sick! Sunday morning super glass off session at Kushosta in Hebera. Then a fun fat boy session mid afternoon Sunday to round out a great weekend of surf. April tomorrow folks, with it we should see the warm weather return and the start of the reeal wave season. See ya all in the morning!!

Friday 29th March 2013 - Easter weekend back home folks but here in Asia it is a normal one for most. Bells Beach comp running this morning in nice mellow fun conditions check it out below. Wave wise in Japan though things have picked up a little Chiba looking good with sets shoulder high and pretty regular. Even Kanagawa is having the odd small pulse come through. A lot of folks this weekend will be pleased to know that there should be some swell around although the early mornings look best as there will be a north wind around as well. Cherry Blossom is coming to an end but tonight will be a great night out under the trees in Tokyo if you have not yet experienced it get out there.

Thursday 28th March 2013 - The warm weather is back with us this morning folks and it's easy to pick as most of the webcams this morning are showing we have some sort of mist or fog covering most breaks early on, we also have a little size up in the swell Chiba breaks are looking pretty nice with wave size in the 2-4ft size with little to no wind as well which is nice. Kanagawa looking small again though as is Izu. In other news the Rip Curl Pro got underway today with the grom search and the girls and men's event all in the same location. Should be a very very busy weekend in the water down there with quality surf predicted. The weekend here in Japan is looking to be a good one as well with some small waves on offer and some nice weather as well. Get outdoors and enjoy yourself if you can.

Wednesday 27th March 2013 - Back to cold grey and drizzle here in Japan , feels like Tokyo is trying very hard to shake winter off but winter keeps coming back to show here strength every other day. Wave wise as well we are still stuck in the same pattern with little to no swell heading our way , everything seems to be heading out into the Pacific. But we have heard that this may change from next week as we see the last of winter this week. Bit more swell due tomorrow so keeps your eyes peeled for a small size up later tonight. Bells Beach Australia start today but they have called a lay day in the hope of some big swell due on Thursday!! Will be a good end to a up and down week then.

Monday 25th March 2013 - Good morning to one and all , unfortunately it is a rather cold damp start here to the day today. Which is a real shame as the Cherry Blossom's are out in all there glory It's going to be a week worth of late night party's under the trees and too much talk of what a good year it is going to be. Wave wise as well not a good start really folks almost all breaks are looking very small with nothing more than 1-2ft waves, Kanagawa is basically flat. So to add a bit of color to the front page we have added a few shots from our longboard session at Malibu on Sunday. Knee high rollers coming in and breaking to perfection across the reef. Water is warming up so is the wave season its going to be a good year.

Thursday 21st March 2013 - Well folks things have turned really good this morning, the only thing the national holiday is already over and most people are going back to work this morning. Waves wise it pretty dam perfect down there in Kamogawa this morning we have nice long distance swell lines rolling in around 4-6ft faces and a stiff off-shore breeze helping the face stay open. Im sure we will have some good solid photos later this afternoon from down that way. North Chiba is bigger but so is the wind lots of fun still to be had but not so inviting really. Kanagawa again has a small amount of swell and so does Izu , the sun is out after the rain of last night but the wind is cold, not as warm as it's been the past few days. Get out there if you can.

Wednesday 20th March 2013 - A mixed bag out there today folks on this Spring National Holiday that we have. The big storm that pushed through yesterday has left us now. The boys is Kanagawa will be slightly disappointed as they only have sm,all 1-2ft conditions they will for sure would have been hoping for bigger. Izu the wind looks to be affecting things early on, Chiba small at the bottom getting bigger as we head North but not a very clean swell and the High tide at 8.30 is messing with a lot of breaks. When the tide does finally drop out a small amount we have the wind changing to the dreaded east direction. So rule for today is get out there and enjoy it while you can. We hope to update with some fun photos later on from the day's antics on's

Tuesday 19th March 2013 - Well as predicted we have woken up this morning to huge swell rolling in that is coming from the fast moving low that hit us yesterday and bought those huge winds as well. The problem is it is still very disorganized and really not ride-able just yet, what we need is the winds to continue you blow off-shore on it for a good few hours to clean it up. Which could very easily happen today, the winds are a bit un-predictable though so best bet is keeps your eyes on it and go when its good. Tomorrow is a National Holiday and things are looking pretty good with this swell backing off a little bit and the chance of the winds coming good. Expect the roads to be busy though so head out early if your going to go.

Monday 18th March 2013 - We are back after a great weekend out at the coast hooking up with old friends and some new ones based up and around the Kujukuri area Shirako! Great to have people to surf with and local knowledge everywhere you go. Today though we had a rude awakning a solid Jolt of a quake that reminds us how fragile our situation really is. Today then we have crazy strong winds with us again , its howling on-shore at most breaks and really is not worth heading out anywhere it's that bad. Things should change tomorrow morning down in the Kanagawa area and if we are really lucky things should line up for a solid morning session of perfection but as we kn ow this time of year nothing is certain. Wednesday this week is a national holiday so look for the mid week session to be nice and busy.

Friday 15th March 2013 - Good morning to one and all! Well what a day we have today a real stunner of a spring one , the sun is out and high in the sky warm wind and fun waves to be had in many areas, and this is set to continue into the weekend. This is one of those classic Chiba days folks pretty much all breaks will be working well with a nice clean 2-4ft swell rolling in from the big storm we had the other day. Hebara is looking great as is Wada and Ioka on the webcams, Kanagawa is a bit small now but further down south the size comes back Tatadohamma in Izu looking super fun with it's perfect clear blue water. The sun is due to keep it's hat on right through the weekend so it's going to be a cracker look for the car parks to be busy early on so get on the road early to avoid the crowds!

Thursday 14th March 2013 - Well lady's and Gent's what can i say this morning, Kelly or We have Epic Surf!! Lets start with the surf here shall we, after the strong winds of yesterday we have been left with a classic morning down in Kanagawa, 6ft sets rolling into the beach breaks on perfect sand bars. Not to many out as its rain and a bit cold so there is some super sick conditions to be had. Up in Chiba things are as good but you will have to work to find the good clean conditions, it will get better as the day goes on. Izu pumping and lots of folks out enjoying it. We will try and post extra pics later today on the site if not on our FaceBook page so check back for them. A huge Congrats goes out to Kelly Slater for winning the Quick Pro Australia in fine form over Joel , looks like it is going to be an Epic Year. Get out there if you can eh!!

Wednesday 13th March 2013 - On-Shore Wind big time is what we have out there today folks, seriously blowing again , carbon copy of last Sunday to be honest. We have a strong low developing in the Pacific and its bringing warm air with it. If you are out and about looking today you are going to be hard pushed to find an area that is not affected. Really you need to find those breaks that are seriously sheltered, Chikura and Taito may be winners but the swell will be small as it is all wind driven. The silver lining of all this though is same as last week at some point the winds will switch back to off-shore and then we should have a nice 4 to 6 hour window of fun sized waves. This may happen tonight going into Thursday. We will of course update as we go along. Quick Pro Australia will run the finals today and with Joel and Kelly into the semi's its going to be an epic one for sure!!

Monday 11th March 2013 - Wave wise what do we have on offer for those out and about on the hunt this morning, well things are a lot calmer than they were at the weekend, Sunday was almost like a typhoon with the strength of the winds and Tokyo with it's yellow sand from China. This morning we have some small waves on offer really that were created from the wind swell of yesterday , so it is going to die really fast. Best place is either far south down in Izu or far North up in Chiba / Ibaraki. It has also got a bit colder again after the crazy heat of the weekend and this is going to continue into Tuesday before we see it go back up. We are reaching the end of the school year here as well so lots of people thinking holidays.!! SIJ moved in to there new Central Chiba HQ last weekend , great to have a hot bath and bed to crash in after a surf. Mail us direct if you are out that way and fancy stopping in for a BBQ on day.

Friday 8th March 2013 - Well we have that Friday feeling here at SIJ headquarters today, things are not looking to good today but tomorrow is the weekend and things are looking pretty good . So lets bash on with today, we still have that south east wind which is bringing on-shore junk style conditions to most breaks today so really not much in the way of good ripable surf out there. If you are hunting again though head to north Chiba Ioka, Nodahamma etc. But later tonight we should see that wind direction change and start to blow off-shore and turn the ocean into a little surfers playground. This is going to be coupled with high temps of around 22 degrees and blue sky which means it should be a great weekend out at the coast. SIJ will be heading out early as we have a new base camp to set up for this years season right in-front of one of the best breaks in Chiba!! Further updates later. Quick Pro has a lay day today.

Thursday 7th March 2013 - Bit of a ground hog day here folks , almost a carbon copy of yesterday , nice warm spring like weather with us so zero complaints there. Blue sky and light winds, swell wise though things are still small and North Chiba into Ibaraki are by far your best option. Quick Pro OZ running at Kirra in good conditions , and the good news is we may see a small amount of swell push up from the south as we head into the weekend. Which will put a smile on many peoples faces. I don't think it will be as big as last weekend but it for sure will be a bit of fun, fingers crossed. See you out there.
