Islands Information

Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands. The four largest islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku, together accounting for ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area. Most of the islands are mountainous, many volcanic.Below we have listed most of the named and inhabited ones, there are many that are uninhabited , many of them have waves that still to this very day have never been ridden and probably will stay that way for many years to come, for the real explorer surfers amongst us the Japanese Island chain could keep you busy for years upon years with endless discovery around every corner, with people being as welcoming as they are it is hard to wonder why more people have not tried to surf them , we can only put it down to one thing and that is the Language barrier. The challange awaits you.

There are a few very easily accessible Islands or groups that are on the normal surf beaten track here which have on there day spectacular waves, our only advice is to make dam sure you know your stuff before you go and make sure you score it with epic conditions other wise you can be faced with an reasonably expensive trip for lake like conditions. That really is the second reason many of these Islands are not over surfed (they are relatively expensive to get to and then stay on)
