5 named breaks make up the Kamogawa beach area. Options everywhere, from South to North in order.

Very Popular***** not too much chance of getting it without a crowd because of the following reasons: Easy access from everywhere (especially for Shonan surfers) big local town, big local hospital (surfing nurses line up to work here), works well in lots of wind and swell conditions.
The beach breaks are all similar, with different bottom contours and shore features offering quality waves in the right conditions. The breaks near the car parks are often busy however if you are prepared to walk a bit you will find peaks with a lot fewer surfers. Last Saturday (23/10/2010) morning we surfed a peak 250m from the main carpark with just us for first 45 minutes while the carpark break had 50 surfers on it with the same wave shape and frequency.
The Reef is called Maruki and is one of the four famous Chiba reefs and one of the two lefthanders (goofy waves). It can hold up to solid 3 x overhead and when it get to this size the rest of the beach is closing out. When it is much smaller in the overhead range it difficult to tell that the wave is even breaking over a sandy reef (other than the paddle out is right beside protruding rocks)
With decent size in the swell, 2.5 ~ 4m out of the NE the reef with start to fire up and can be an excellent walling wave.
General Break Information
Access: Train from Tokyo Station to Kamogawa, Wakashio express is fastest and most convenient, easy access to Seaside and a 2 km up to Maruki.
Car round the top of Tokyo bay or through the Aqua line
Round trip from Tokyo, Round the top, 140km, Through the Aqua Line approx 100km. Weekend tool rates: round the Top 1,450. Through the tunnel 2,400.
Best Tide: low tide on small swells, but less tide dependent on larger swells
Best Swell Direction: NE for the reef, East for the beach breaks
Best Size: Reef 6-8ft+ (overhead to double overhead); beach breaks 4-6 ft (Shoulder to overhead)
Best Wind: West
Perfect-O-Meter: Reef 7; Beach breaks 6 (1= 1 ft wind slop; 10 = G-Land)
Bottom: Reef & Sand or just sand
Access: As above
Crowd Factor: holidays 8 weekdays 5 (1 = Pipeline in Summer; 10 = Tokyo station)
Local Vibe: Lots of good surfers but no real locals vibe
Water Quality: 3 (the shit factory is tightly controlled) (1=clean; 10=turds in the lineup)
Food: Dennies, lots of restaurants and convenience stores
